░ ░ ░ Lets Talk! ░ ░ ░
We meet and talk about femininity, it’s myth and it’s demystification.
We will try to take it apart and put it together again. What is shown, said or left unspoken in Improper Walls’ exhibition Demystifying Femininity?
Wednesday, 21st of June:
░ 15 — 19:00 Regular Opening Hours to see the exhibition Demystifying Femininity quietly
░ 19:30 Performance by Hyeji Nam
░ 20:00 Open Discussion Forum
Everyone is invited to participate!
The evening will begin with a performance by Nam Hyeji.
Born in Korea, she is currently studying in Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Vienna, focusing on mixed media performances and videos, based on the theme of body, sexuality, and taboos. How is the body involved in a political field, how is it being invested by politics and society to mark, train, torture and force it to carry out tasks and perform certain ceremonies?
We will dive into the topic by giving voices to a few of the exhibited artists.
Besides Hyeji Nam also Vienna-based photographer Mani Froh will talk about his view on the topic. With his work Pastel Portraits, he invited the audience to be part of his project, which aims to show the bandwidth of self-awareness regarding the construction of gender. During the Vernissage on 7th of June, 70 portraits of visitors were taken, colored by their own choosing in the shades of purple (feminine), blue (masculine) and yellow (other).
Martina Schöggl, who is active in the fields of culture and board member of the Viennese cross-sector women-network Sorority since 2013, will accompany us with valuable insight from the Sorority’s and her own experiences during the discussion.
The evening will be moderated by Elisabeth Hinkel, curator, and organizer at Improper Walls.
But most important: ░ Come & speak up. It’s your opinion, feedback & criticism that will make the evening valuable and the exhibition vital.
